It’s a new day and St. Vincent Hospital is here to stay!

In 2019, as St. Vincent Hospital celebrates 140 years of caring, we began construction on a new, state-of-the-art hospital. This is made possible by community and taxpayer support and a financial turnaround which is currently underway at St. Vincent General Hospital District (SVGHD). We will update the project and construction news regularly on this page.

Read our frequently asked questions and answers. They will be updated regularly with new project information as it becomes available.

The district’s recent strength has resulted from a total shift in philosophy and culture at St. Vincent Hospital. Under the leadership of the board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer, Gary Campbell and Chief of Medical Staff, Lisa Zwerdlinger, MD, the hospital has focused on offering patients the care they need locally. Inpatient beds were reopened in 2017 and by comparison, inpatient days in 2016 totaled 3 2016 totaled; the total in 2018 was 392.

Additionally, the hospital has added new services such as stress echocardiograms, swing bed services, inpatient hospice, and respite care.  Physical therapy reopened in 2017, and now the department employs 2 full-time doctors of physical therapy. After outsourcing the business office for many years, St. Vincent invested in bringing the office back in-house. The hospital also implemented a new electronic health record and billing management software. Now when billing questions arise or patients need financial assistance – help is available in person or over the phone from friendly and knowledgeable hospital team members.

Looking to the future, the district has embraced the concept of a health campus where specialists, primary care, Lake County Public Health Agency and other health-related offices reside in the current hospital building and synergistically complement services in the adjacent new hospital facility.

Construction Update

October 21, 2019: Dirt work is complete.  Concrete footers have been poured.  Site prep is on-going for the foundation and eventual arrival of steel.

Crews are expected to work Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The hospital parking lot connecting between W. 6th Street and W. 4th Street is affected by construction congestion. If you typically cut between 6th and 4th Street through the hospital parking lots, please use another route. The lower level drive is gated at times at 6th Street. The Lake County Public Health and LCBAG parking lot will remain open and accessible from 6th Street but large trucks will also utilize the area to haul dirt away.

Construction information will be available at www.LeadvilleHospital.org/new-hospital or by contacting Karen Onderdonk in the hospital’s outreach department at 719-486-7135. konderdonk@svghd.org.
